Yes I finished the 25 things.
I found some of the sites far too busy and just full of what I call information overload.
I think with wikis, texting, blogs and e-mail we are losing the art of face to face communication.

I opened a Netlibrary account.
I viewed several titles from the catalogue.
I don't have an MP3 player so I can't download.

Youtube

I watched several videos on Youtube including one with celebrities promoting the NYPL system. I saw Freddie Mercury's last performance on Youtube and the Superbowl commercials that aren't available in Canada.

Exercise 20

I went on Learning 2.0 Favorites wiki.
I added a blog to the restaurants favourites page. and saw other favourites as well.
I really prefer to talk face to face with people!

Exercise 19

Wiki

I viewed the video and read the articles about wiki.
It is interesting to see what people write.
I wouldn't personally use it for information.
The drawbacks mentioned in the articles include wikis being too open, disorganized, open to span and vandalism.
Benefits include the quick editing of information.
I like the idea of adding and editing information in a quick fashion.
Libraries could use it for book clubs, book lists, pathfinders and developing subject headings for topics.

Changes will occur in the future about roles of libraries in communities.
Interesting that Rick Anderson Director of Resource Acquisition,University of Nevada, Reno Libraries indicated the following:


In my library, we’ve seen a 55 percent drop in circulation rates over the past twelve years, making it harder and harder to justify the continued buildup of a large “just in case” print collection.

I had the impression that there has been in fact an increase in library circulation - eg TPL , and WPL .

Looked at the weather Blogs
Couldn't find the advanced search option
I find there is way too much on the page to view.

Exercise 15

Saw the 3 You tube videos on tagging and delicious
Made a Delicious account
Explored how to bookmark on Delicious
Added 2 bookmarks on Delicious and tagged the bookmark
Viewed Whitby Library's 25 things bookmarks on Delicious and saw 3 tags for social networking
It is an easy way to use bookmarks that can be accessed from anywhere and would be useful for research purposes.

#14 Online Image Generators

Went to the freeway sign website
Played with the features.
Will ask how to save image to be added to post,
Couldn't cut and past my sign and my sign looks horrible. Really speaks to my creative side.
Will try again.

#13 Library Thing

I looked at the Library Thing website and signed up for an account.
I added 5 titles to my account which were my favourite authors.
Potential users of this online tool would be Book clubs, authors and publishers.

Exercise 11

Explored bloglines search tools for Costa Rica.
Used Topix.Net to try and subscribe to Enterntainement but the feed didn't take. Not sure if they become dead links similar to some of our internet sites.
Used Library Weblogs to finds a feed from the Law Library Reference blog and added it to my feed.

Most of the ones I tried were fairly straight forward and easy to follow.
They present several options for searching and information gathering.
